Science Intent

Science teaching at North Cotes Church of England and Fulstow Primary Schools aims to give all children the ability to think independently and raise questions about working scientifically and the knowledge and skills that it brings.  We want to deliver lessons that help all pupils develop in confidence and competence in the full range of practical skills, taking the initiative in, for example, planning and carrying out scientific investigations.

Our aim is for all children to have excellent scientific knowledge and understanding which is demonstrated in written and verbal explanations, solving challenging problems and reporting scientific findings. We want to provide opportunities for children to develop a passion for science and its application in past, present and future technologies.  To help us plan for and deliver effective lessons we follow the Essentials Curriculum.

Science is assessed in accordance with our assessment policy using our Depth of Learning tracker together with TAPS assessments and this enables teachers to track progress of all pupils through the subject, and ensures that there is the appropriate level of challenge and support.
